Mauricio Pochettino reportedly agrees to become the coach of USMNT

Former head coach of Chelsea Football Club, Mauricio Pochettino, has reportedly agreed to become the head coach of the United States men’s national team.

There are multiple reports online that have confirmed the news that Mauricio Pochettino will return to coaching just a few months after he left his position as Chelsea’s manager at the end of the 2023/24 season. Transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on his official X account on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

He said,

Mauricio Pochettino becomes the new USMNT manager, leading the U.S. to the World Cup in 2026. After contact with several managers, the former Chelsea and Spurs head coach says yes to the proposal and project, as per reports
in the US overnight.”

The USA decided to sack its former coach, Gregg Berhalter, following a disappointing group-stage exit in the 2024 Copa América which was eventually won by Argentina.

Pochettino will be bringing his loads of experience to the team which includes guiding Southampton to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League. He led Tottenham to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2019, and the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
