Nigerian singer, Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has recounted his struggle with public acceptance and health issues.
Appearing on a recent episode of ‘Drip Check’, the singer disclosed that he battled depression in 2020 due to a lack of public acceptance despite releasing songs back-to-back.
The Mavin artist also recalled how he almost lost his life in 2022. He said people don’t come back from such breakdowns and his being alive is a miracle.
Crayon said on the show:
“2020 was one of my darkest years in the game. I dropped about seven songs and no one gained traction. I remember when I dropped ‘Gbona,’ it was about to take off then COVID-19 struck and everything shut down. And ‘Gbona’ was a club banger. I dropped the video, but it still didn’t pick up. I was dropping songs biweekly.
“I had a breakdown in early 2022. People don’t come back from that sh*t, me standing right here now is a miracle. I almost lost my life.”
Crayon in 2023 revealed that his mother sold fruits for a living in Orile, Lagos state and they lived in a face-me-I-face you apartment with nine people in a room prior stardom.
The 23-year-old said his debut album ‘Trench To Triumph’ follows his success story from when he was living in the ghetto with his family in a low-income neighbourhood to getting signed by music executive, Don Jazzy.
The ‘Ngozi’ crooner spoke in an interview with Glitch Africa, noting that he is happy about life because everything is good and amazing.
