The Serbian international announced his withdrawal from the French Open following an injury he picked up in his fourth-round victory over Argentina’s Francisco Cerendolo in a five-set thriller. The Serbian had a scan on the injury on Tuesday which means he could miss the Wimbledon and the Olympics.
He blamed the slippery Roland Garros clay courts for aggravating the problem during his fourth-round victory on Monday. Djokovic will have a surgery which is expected to rule him out for at least three weeks.

The 24-grand slam winner made the announcement about his injury on his official Instagram account, explaining the present situation of his injury.
“I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Roland Garros. I played with my heart and gave my all in yesterday’s match and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation.”
What does this mean to Djokovic?
Djokovic will lose his position as the world number one and be replaced by Italy’s Jannik Sinner after the French Open. This also means he will have to wait a litgle longer before winning his 25th Grand Slam title.
However, there is still doubt if he will be able to regain fitness in time for Wimbledon, where he is a seven-time champion. This also means that a new French Open men’s singles champion will be crowned, with Ruud, the runner-up in 2022 and 2023, receiving a walkover into the semi-final, he will play either German fourth seed Alexander Zverev or Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
Sinner faces Spanish third seed Carlos Alcaraz or Greek ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the other semi-final.
