Who are the nominees for the Premier League Young Player of the Season?

The English Premier League has released the names of eight players that could potentially win the best young player of the 2023/24 football season.

This season has seen the emergence of new players while some of the players on the list are not new to this nomination process. They were selected by the body in charge of the award for the fantastic hard work that they put into their clubs from the start of the season in August 2023.

Manchester City and Arsenal had two players each on the list while one player each from Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Tottenham completed the eight-man list.

Who are the nominees for the Best Young Player award?

(1) Phil Foden ( Manchester City)

Foden has been one of the standout midfielders of the season, he has directly contributed to 24 goals, including two hat-tricks, in Manchester City’s quest to be the first team to win four consecutive Premier League titles.

(2) Erling Haaland ( Manchester City)

The Norwegian will be looking to win the award for the second time in a row, he currently leads the 2023/24 goal scorers chart having scored 25 goals. The 23-year-old has also set up five goals for his team-mates, making him one of only three players this season to reach 30 goal involvements.

(3) Bukayo Saka ( Arsenal)

The English midfielder has been one of the most consistent players for the Gunners in the past couple of seasons. Saka has been key in Arsenal’s quest to win the Premier League this season for the first time in 20 years having scored 16 goals and nine assists to his name.

(4) William Saliba ( Arsenal)

The Frenchman has been a wall in Arsenal’s defence this season helping the Gunners to keep 17 clean sheets and conceding only 28 goals all season.

(5) Cole Palmer ( Chelsea)

The former Manchester City player could easily be named the best signing of the season because of how impressive he has been for Chelsea since he joined in the summer. Palmer has broken a lot of records for the Blues, one of which is equalling
Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard’s Chelsea record of 16 home Premier League goals in a season, while also becoming only the third player in history to reach 30+ goal involvements in a Premier League season while aged 21 or younger, after Robbie Fowler and Chris Sutton.

(6) Alexander Isak ( Newcastle)

This is the second consecutive season after 21 goal involvements in only 27 matches. He is the first Newcastle player since Alan Shearer in 2002/03 to reach 20 goals in a Premier League season

(7) Kobbie Mainoo ( Manchester United)

The 19-year-old has been the revelation for supporters of the Red Devils this season, he has shown the world what he is capable of doing on the pitch. Mainoo’s recent form earned him a spot in the Three Lions national team during the last international FIFA break.

(8) Destiny Udogie ( Tottenham)

The 21-year-old Italian has made a big impression at Spurs in his first season in the Premier League. Udogie’s stats are impressive, directly contributing to five goals, creating 24 chances, and making 68 tackles.

How will the winner be selected?

Football fans will have the chance to vote for their preferred choice up until Monday 13 May 2024, from eight nominees who were aged 23 or younger at the start of the season.
