A 24-year-old Nigerian lady identified as Jemima Shetima Balami, who was pursuing her Diploma in Mass Communication at Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, reportedly took poison after being dumped by her boyfriend.
The incident reportedly occurred after her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University in Yola, informed her that he was terminating their relationship.
Jemima, a resident of Garkida in the Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, had been undergoing her industrial attachment with Adamawa State Television.
The lady reportedly died at her residence in Vinikilang, a riverside community near the state capital, Yola,
Shockingly, the 24-year-old lady was reported to be the only daughter of her father.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the father of the deceased reported the incident.
SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed on Monday that Jemima had taken a deadly substance, leading to her demise.
The circumstances surrounding her decision to take such a drastic step were linked to her relationship troubles with the lecturer.
“The father of Jamima reported that she committed suiciide by taking a deadly substance.
“Another version had it that she visited her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, and was told to quit the relationship. Angered by the news of exiting her boyfriend, the deceased took poison,” SP Suleiman Nguroje said.
