Ms. Plaatjies, a teacher, won over many hearts when she bought shoes for her students who were struggling financially so that they could attend school.
Last week, on January 17, as schools resumed, the instructor from Bolekehang Intermediate School in the Free State published a moving video on her TikTok account, highlighting the difficulties some of her kids were experiencing.
Students in her class were shown in the video wearing ripped, old shoes, and one student was even seen wearing sneakers instead of the official school footwear.
The video shows Ms. Plaatjies removing each student’s brand-new school shoes from their packaging and setting them on their desks.
Every student in her class, regardless of their family’s financial situation, will appear equal, the teacher claims.
“They come from different families, but they should be equal in my class,” she said.
