Recall that a few days prior, Yul had publicly dragged his divorced wife, requesting that she return her wedding price and give up his last name.

In reaction, Mary Njoku stated that while a mother is free to alter her own name, she shouldn’t be forced to give her children a different name.

She pointed out that one cannot build a name for years and be suddenly asked to change it because their partner wants a divorce.

Mary Njoku reiterated that altering one’s name after a marriage should be voluntary and not because they are compelled to.

Taking to her Instagram account, she wrote:

“If marriage ends, change of name should be optional Biko. Someone cannot build a Name for many years and he asked to change it just because Oga no wan do again.

A mother shouldn’t be compelled to have a different name from her underaged kids. Except she is allowed to change their names too.

Besides, some wives have been responsible for putting their surnames on the map. Asking them to drop it is like stealing her copyright. Except she wants to”.

Many people agreed with her in the comment section, enumerating Hollywood stars like Kris Jenner, Larsa Pippen, and others who still go by their husbands’ surnames.
