The Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council’s former director general, Doyin Okupe, was admitted to the hospital due to cancer.
Okupe just returned from receiving treatment for prostate cancer in Israel, according to sources.
But it was discovered that his condition had not gotten better.
A source close to the Okupe family told SaharaReporters that; “Okupe, the former campaign DG to Peter Obi recently returned from Israel where he was undertaking treatment for prostate cancer.
“Family members are worried that his condition has not improved since his return from Israel.”
Remember that Okupe was found guilty in December 2022 of accepting more than N200 million in payment from Col. Sambo Dasuki (retired), a former national security adviser.
Following his conviction on 26 counts, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced him to two years in prison with the possibility of a N500,000 fine for each case.
Okupe was found guilty of violating the Money Laundering Act by Justice Ojukwu, who also gave him until 4:30 p.m. that same day to pay the fine or face being transported to the Kuje Correctional Center.
Omolola, the convict’s wife, and Adesunkanmi, his son, had begged Justice Ojukwu for mercy.
Okupe was charged of accepting varied amounts of money, up to N10 million, on several occasions between 2012 and 2015 while serving as the adviser to then-President Jonathan in charges 34 to 59, which led to his conviction.
He said that the funds were used to pay employees, operate his office, and launder funds belonging to the previous administration and president.
On the other hand, Okupe was permitted to return home after paying the N13 million fine ahead of schedule.
