A young girl was racially abused outside the Wanda Metropolitano for wearing a Vinicius Jr shirt.
So, Real Madrid invited the girl and her family to the Bernabéu today to meet the squad. The supporter was wearing a shirt with Vinicius Junior’s name and number on the back at the Madrid derby, which Atletico won 3-1.
A young black girl, her mother and aunt were reportedly intimidated and the subject of abuse by Atletico fans.
Police have been alerted to the incident and the prosecutor’s office has received an official complaint. He said: “Get out of here or we’re going to kill the f***ing girl.” A lot of insults and everything. And then you look up and see a lot of people, a very large crowd of people pointing at the girl, insulting the girl, singing at the girl,” explained the girl’s aunt.
Incidents of racist abuse from Atletico supporters towards Real players and their fans have been more frequent in recent meetings between the two rivals.
In September last year, Atletico fans made racist chants about Vinicius outside the stadium before the game. A section of supporters also made monkey noises throughout the game.
Atletico denounced the supporters on that occasion, saying the chants “provoke enormous repulsion and indignation. We will not allow any individual to hide behind our colours to utter insults of a racist or xenophobic nature”.
“We were walking around the Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium; there was a gathering of the Atlético hooligans and we stayed to watch it. I have been an Atlético season-ticket holder since I was born. And they started singing “Vikingo, no”, “monkey”, “black shit”. And at first I swear to you that we didn’t know it was because of us. I even looked back thinking that they were saying about Vikings outside to some group of kids who were passing behind us. I would never have imagined that it was because of the girl. Until a kid came up and hit me on the arm.
