A young man identified as Victor Ifakachukwu has allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death in Benin City, Edo State.
The gruesome incident unfolded at 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe Quarters, off Sapele Road, Benin City.
The couple had reportedly locked themselves inside their apartment when the violent altercation erupted.
According to sources, the incident was reported to the police by their landlord, Mr. Emmanuel Momoh, around 4 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers found a disturbing scene of bloodshed.
Police recovered two blood-stained knives, along with personal belongings including a laptop, two iPhones, and a Nokia phone, from the apartment.
Victor Ifakachukwu, the alleged perpetrator, suffered severe injuries during the attack and was subsequently arrested and hospitalized.
He remains under close observation at an undisclosed medical facility, awaiting consciousness in order to provide an account of the events leading up to the tragic incident.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence of the incident to the Nigerian Tribune.
“When we arrived at the house, Omo, blood was flowing like water, I believe they started stabbing themselves when a quarrel erupted between them.
“I suspect something went wrong and the girl fought back with her last power. When the boy regains consciousness, he will tell us how many of them were in the house and what actually happened,” SP Chidi Nwabuzor.
Witnesses who assisted in the removal of the victim’s body noted that no parts appeared to be missing from the deceased.
They speculated that a quarrel between the two individuals might have escalated, leading to the tragic outcome.
