Osimhen hits double as Napoli defeats Frosinone

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen grabbed a brace today, August 19, as Napoli came from behind to defeat Frosinone in their first Serie A league match of the season.

Frosinone, roared on by their fans in the Italian heat, opted not to sit back and allow the favourites to roll over them, but instead took the game on from the opening minutes.

Their efforts, and their pressure, brough early reward, and it was the home side who took the lead in the seventh minute, thanks to a well-earned penalty. Abdou Harroui made no mistake from the spot, slotting low to the keeper’s left.

Napoli, who were without injured star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, quickly got back into the game and after an extended spell of pressure, were back on level terms after 24 minutes. The ball came into the middle and sat up well for Matteo Politano, who laced nicely beyond reach of the Frosinone keeper.

Kvaratskhelia’s replacement Giacomo Raspadori thought he had put Napoli in front 10 minutes before the break but the goal was chalked off for the unfortunate Cajuste being offside early in the move.

Osimhen ensured Napoli went ahead before the break with his superb finish. The Nigerian striker who was Serie A’s top scorer last season, received the ball after a run from Giovanni Di Lorenzo and unleashed a piledriver from an angle that grazed the underside of the crossbar on its way in.

The Super Eagles star who also fizzed a stunning effort just over the bar on the hour mark, sealed the points with 11 minutes remaining after being sent clean through by Di Lorenzo and coolly stroking past Turati.

With Osimhen delivering two goals for Napoli on the opening day against Frosinone, he is already off with a positive start.
