Alex Chioma Otti (born 18 February 1965) is a newly elected Abia state Governor, economist, banker, investor, and philanthropist.
He is now the Governor-elect of Abia State, Nigeria, having been elected with the Labour Party in the March 17 gubernatorial elections. He is from Isiala Ngwa in the Nigerian state of Abia.
Previously, Otti was the Group Managing Director (BMD) of Diamond Bank Plc, a Nigerian retail banking institution. In 2015, he ran for governor of Abia State as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate.
The Court of Appeal, which met in Owerri on December 31, 2015, deposed Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of Abia State and pronounced Otti the victor of the state’s governorship elections on April 11 and April 25.

Early Life
Alex Otti was born on 18 February 1965. He is the son of the late Pastor and Mrs Lazarus Weze Otti, from the native of Umuru, Umuehim village in the Ehi Na Uguru Ancient Kingdom, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Abia State, Eastern Nigeria.
Otti attended Ngwa High School in Aba and Okpuala Ngwa Technical School, where he earned his West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) credential. Otti graduated first in his class in high school.
He thereafter transferred to the University of Port Harcourt to pursue his undergraduate degree. In 1988, Alex Otti received a First Class Degree in Economics.
He received his Masters Degree from the University of Lagos in 1994. Otti also attended several overseas courses at prestigious schools, including the Executive Development Programs at Columbia Business School, Stanford Business School, and Wharton Business School.
Alex Otti was awarded an honorary doctorate by Babcock University, University of Port Harcourt, and University of Nigeria Nssuka, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and success throughout the years.
Career
Alex Otti began his financial profession in 1989, following his academic degree. First, he worked in the operating unit of the Nigerian International Bank, a Citibank New York subsidiary.
After that, he worked for Nigerian Intercontinental Bank in the corporate banking department as well as the treasury and financial services division.
He began working with Merchant Bankers (formerly Societe Bancaire Nigeria Limited) in 1992 and swiftly rose to the rank of senior manager.
Later, he joined the United Bank of Africa (UBA) as the manager in charge of the South Division’s corporate banking business. In May 2001, he began working as an assistant general manager at First Bank of Nigeria, PLC.
Otti was given the job of building the bank’s oil and gas business during his time at UBA. He was in charge of expanding the bank’s Energy Sector while at First Bank.
He was elevated to deputy general manager in 2004. Alex Otti was appointed Executive Director, Commercial Banking a year later. Otti joined Diamond Bank as group managing director/chief executive officer in March 2011, following his success in different commercial banks in Nigeria.
Otti retired on October 24, 2014, and Uzoma Dozie was appointed as the new CEO and General Manager Director.
Following his retirement from the banking industry, Otti campaigned for governor of Abia State on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
He was defeated by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Okezie Ikpeazu. This came when the Supreme Court of Nigeria overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision and upheld Ikpeazu’s election as Governor in 2016.
Following his success in the 2015 gubernatorial election, Alex Otti ran for re-election on March 11, 2023, but this time under the banner of the Labour Party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proclaimed Alex Otti the winner of the Abia State gubernatorial election on March 22.
