Organizers of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2022) has dedicated the premiere of ‘The Kings Horsemen’ to late Nigerian filmmaker, Biyi Bandele.
The King’s Horsemen, a 2022 feature-length directed by the late Biyi Bandele, debuted last weekend to much fanfare.
According to reports, the premiere was held in honor of the late director, who made several contributions to the global film industry.
Cameron Bailey, the Chief Executive Officer of TIFF in a tweet, shortly after Bandele’s death praised his work while also stating that he will be missed.
I still remember the excitement at the premiere of HALF OF A YELLOW SUN at #TIFF13. With that film and THE KING’S HORSEMAN, Biyi Bandele was doing something so rare in world cinema: large-scale adaptations of African literature meant for the whole world. He will be missed.

The late Bandele worked on this Netflix/EbonyLife project as his final feature film before passing away last month.
Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello, Deyemi Okanlawon, Mark Elderkin, Jenny Stead, Omowunmi Dada, Olawale “Brymo” Ashmi, Jide Kosoko, Kevin Ushi, Langley Kirkwood, and Fares Boulous, aka “Oyibo Rebel,” all appear in the 96-minute Yoruba-language movie.
