Bethenny Frankel gets “Real.”
The former “Real Housewives of New York City” star, 51, took to social media Wednesday to continue her campaign against photo editing and filtering, which she deemed as “outright lying.”
In her Instagram post, Frankel shared side-by-side photos of herself. In the first, her skin was blurred, her head was smaller and her roots had been concealed, while in the second, she showed off her real skin texture.
“Hey it’s me, your favorite filtered friend… just making myself look a little better, a little younger, so you think I look better than you. Doesn’t that really build up your self esteem? I spend hours with tech assistants to make myself look good and you feel bad!” she captioned the post, referring to her re-touched selfie.
The reality star then detailed how her image had been Photoshopped, saying “More hair, less wrinkles, perfectly smooth skin, higher cheekbones, more defined eyebrows, smaller face, bigger lips… when does it end?”
The Skinnygirl founder went on to slam those who post edited photos as if they were authentic.
“The online world we live in is insane,” she said. “It’s so important that we acknowledge what’s happening with the filtering and the photoshopping and the outright lying. What is the message we are all buying into? What are we sharing with our children?”
Frankel — who is mom to 12-year-old daughter Bryn — concluded, “Ps. When it’s filtered or I’m glammed up, you will know it! Xo.”
This isn’t the first time she’s ripped on those who edit their appearance and how harmful it can be to younger people on the apps.
The Bravo alum made waves when she called the Kardashian family out for Photoshopping and posted an edited version of her bikini body to make a point last month.
She explained that their photo-editing is “not fair to women just trying to get by,” and called it “irresponsible” and “reckless.”
“Moms feel insecure. … They don’t have time to do all this [Photoshop], nor they even know how to [with] the technology,” Frankel continued, saying that women can’t compete with the images shared by Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and their sisters.
“The more we see these images, the more we think they’re real. It becomes a false ideal,” Frankel said. “It’s not inspirational, it’s not aspirational. It creates eating disorders, insecurity, depression. It’s a serious thing.”
She furthered pointed out that the Kardashians have a responsibility to be honest about the editing they do to their content, as well as any cosmetic surgery they’ve had, to avoid creating false ideals.
Frankel’s tirade on the Kardashian clan came after Kim posted a photo where she appeared to have removed her trapezius muscle poolside.
