Barcelona’s away kit for the 2023/24 season is set to predominantly be white – the famous colour of arch-rivals Real Madrid.
Nike have worked their way through a ranging palette for Barca away kits over the years, with the most popular usually being the colours of Catalonia (yellow and red) or a more novelty neon green.
This season’s changed strip is a golden number reminiscent of iconic away kits in the early 2000s, but it has now been reported by Sport that Barcelona’s next one is more likely to prove infamous.
The Blaugrana are set to don a white away kit for the 2023/24 campaign after Joan Laporta and the board approved of such a decision earlier this year. The club hierarchy are well aware of the debate that it will stir and it was a factor considered.
Laporta and the board are confident that a white Barcelona shirt will be ‘one of the best selling shirts in history’.
Though it is obviously the main colour of their enemies at Real Madrid, Barcelona have worn white kits in the past. They regularly used it as a changed strip in the 1950s, though they haven’t played in one since the late 1970s when Johan Cruyff played for the club.
Barcelona’s third kit for this season features a red and blue cross on a largely grey shirt, though this distinction means it has not created such a debate.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have a recent history of wearing the colours of Barcelona and city rivals Atletico Madrid. Red kits in the 2011/12 and 2018/19 seasons proved almost universally unpopular among fans.
Sport add that Barca’s home kit next season will look more traditional than some of their recent efforts, reverting to wider blue and red stripes.
