The best goals of Premier League gameweek 6

Some questionable refereeing decisions robbed us of some absolute worldies in gameweek 6.

Alexis Mac Allister bagged a screamer against Leicester but saw his fun ended by VAR, while a flag-happy linesman denied Philippe Coutinho what could have been a sensational victory for Aston Villa over Manchester City.

Fortunately, there were still plenty of great goals for us to enjoy in the latest round of Premier League action, so let’s get stuck into the best of them – ranked!

There’s no Coutinho here, but in his place, we’ll take this cool finish from Leon Bailey.

The excellent Jacob Ramsey jinked his way into the box and cut the ball back to Bailey, who collected it perfectly and drilled the ball into the roof of the net.

It might not have been Coutinho’s strike, but it’s the best those officials wanted us to get from this game.

Another simple strike from Erling Haaland, who owes this one to Kevin De Bruyne and the Belgian’s wand of a right foot.

Haaland was lurking at the back post and tapped home from about two yards out after the Belgian’s looping cross caught everyone apart from the Norwegian out.

The season is just six games old and Haaland is already looking terrifying.

A debut goal for Antony, whose celebration was worth the €100m alone.

Some nice footwork from Marcus Rashford saw Antony find himself in some space, and the young Brazilian flashed his composure to bend his effort around Aaron Ramsdale and into the back of the net.

If there’s one way to win over the Man Utd supporters, it’s that.

An excellent performance from Rashford included two goals, but this one was all about the assist from Bruno Fernandes.

Under a lot of criticism recently, Fernandes sent an outside-of-the-boot pass perfectly through Arsenal’s defence, giving Rashford a one-on-one to seal the deal.

The England man almost messed it up as his first touch left a lot to be desired, but credit where it’s due, he held strong and got the job done.

Luis Sinisterra handed Leeds what looked like a lifeline against Brentford with a finish oozing with class.

With a flick over a defender, the summer signing found himself in some space and ran on to the ball to deliver an inch-perfect low drive that had Illan Meslier scrambling hopelessly.

Leeds would end up getting thumped 5-2, so Sinisterra’s strike feels like one that is going to end up getting swept under the radar.

Ivan Toney netted a hat-trick this weekend and it’s his third goal that crops up first on this list.

Illan Meslier came running out of goal to clear the ball but he sent it straight to the feet of Toney, who pulled out a nutmeg and a 20-yard lob that took two retreating Leeds defenders out of the game perfectly.

That’s five goals and two assists in just six games from Toney. Not bad.

Nothing to see here, just Aleksandar Mitrovic doing it in the Premier League for the sixth week in a row.

This sumptuous strike – a forceful, yet precise arrow into the top corner – might not have been enough for Fulham to beat Tottenham, but it was the game’s best individual highlight.

Six goals in as many games now. It took him 31 games to reach that tally in 2015/16 and 13 in 2018/19.

Philip Billing, Marcus Tavernier

One of the most entertaining games of the weekend came between Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, the latter of whom threw away a two-goal lead to end up losing 3-2.

Bournemouth’s comeback was kick-started by an absolute scorcher from Philip Billing.

The big man lined up a strike at the edge of the box and absolutely ripped it into the top corner before you could even process what was going on.

Ivan Toney woke up feeling dangerous.

After opening the scoring for Brentford from the penalty spot, he stepped up to this free-kick and thumped it into the top corner with almost the exact same technique.

They don’t come much sweeter than this.

Mac Allister’s disallowed goal was absolutely sublime (seriously, go look it up), but this free-kick wasn’t far behind.

Brighton’s little Argentine unleashed a gorgeous curling effort which would have evaded any goalkeeper on the planet, let alone a desperate Danny Ward.

But still, go look at the disallowed goal.
