Sergino Dest is on course to join AC Milan from Barcelona ahead of the transfer deadline.
The American has been the subject of interest from several European sides, including Villarreal, Manchester United. But Milan now stand as frontrunners in the race to sign Dest.
Though Villarreal and Manchester United both held talks with the Catalan giants, sources have confirmed to 90min that the deal is nearly done with Milan. It will be a one-year loan with an option for a permanent four-year contract.
The United States international originally wanted to stay and fight for his place at Barcelona, but now welcomes a transfer after failing to make the squad for the first three games of the season.
The player has recorded three goals and five assists in 72 overall appearances for Barcelona since his debut in 2020. But his rhythm with the team quickly deteriorated, inspiring the move away.
Now, with the World Cup coming up, Dest will likely be looking for playing time to secure his spot on Gregg Berhalter’s 26-player USA roster headed to Qatar.
