Cher shuts down fan calling Dua Lipa ‘Cher of our generation’

One Cher is all it takes.

The Goddess of Pop shut down a fan who compared Dua Lipa to her in a cheeky tweet on Tuesday.

“Dua Lipa, the Cher of our generation,” the Twitter user wrote along with a video of the “Levitating” singer, 27, at last year’s Grammy Awards.

But Cher, 76, didn’t seem to agree, responding with her own tweet, “How many years are in a generation🤔.”

Several netizens swooped in to “Cher” their own opinions on the comparison.

“False. I’m a millennial and it will always be Cher for me,” one person disagreed.

“Cher is for boomers/ gen X,” another wrote, adding, “Dua Lipa is for millennials/ gen Z.”

“One thing is being *inspired* by someone, and other is being a replacement. Dua is the Dua Lipa of our generation. Cher is Cher. No need to compare two completely different individuals in talent just because one dress like the other,” a third explained.

“People are not really understanding the cultural impact Cher had. Anyone can dress like Cher today, but it’s not the same thing as being the first one to break that ground. That was Cher. Also Cher has starred in movies and her own TV show. She is the one and only,” a third fan agreed.

It’s no secret that Lipa has mirrored several of Cher’s iconic looks over the years.

The “Don’t Start Now” singer famously wore a skimpy Versace butterfly dress to the 2021 Grammys that drew comparisons to the flashy butterfly-themed getup that Cher rocked at the 1974 show.

Lipa also channeled her inner Goddess of Pop during a 2018 performance in Paris by wearing Cher’s iconic Bob Mackie naked dress adorned with feathers that the “Believe” singer wore to the 1974 Met Gala.

And in the same vein, both superstars have collaborated with Versace. Lipa was named the face of the Italian fashion house in June 2021, per Paper magazine.

Meanwhile, Cher worked with Versace to create her own line, dubbed Chersace, this summer for Pride 2022.
