Celebrity chef Jose Andres’ popular The Bazaar restaurant at the SLS in Miami is closing, a source tells Page Six.
We hear the spot told the hotel in May that it wanted out by June, giving the hotel just 30 days notice in May. “The hotel was frantic,” says a source, noting the SLS celebrated its 10-year anniversary in June and didn’t want an empty space.
We’re told the upscale restaurant — which serves fine food with a side of culinary theatrics like croquettes in a sneaker-shaped container and an ice-cream-style cone stuffed with caviar — has agreed to stay a little longer.
Area Vice President of Operations for Ennismore, the mother company of the SLS brand, Simon Sorpresi says they won’t be closing up shop until next year.
“Upon the successful completion of its agreement, The Bazaar by José Andrés will be closing at the SLS South Beach in 2023,” Sopresi tells us. “We are extremely proud of our ten year-long partnership and our impact on the local community. We want to express our gratitude to our long-time friend José Andrés and his team for a decade of culinary excellence here at SLS South Beach.”
It’s unclear if the globe-trotting chef will open another spot in Miami.
Andres isn’t slowing down though. He just opened Mediterranean restaurant Zaytinya in New York at the new Ritz Carlton in Nomad and has a number of spots within the Conrad in Los Angeles.
The beloved chef has also been busy with his charity World Central Kitchen, which has distributed meals in war-torn Ukraine. They have helped out with other disasters over the world and set up shop in the city to help feed frontline healthcare workers and those struggling during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The mega chef’s charitable endeavors are also the subject of a new NatGeo documentary called “We Feed People,” from director Ron Howard. The film has received two Emmy nominations.
