New England Patriots running back James White has announced his retirement at age 30.

His tweet reads, “New England will be in my heart forever. Thank you for unwavering support over the years. I am forever grateful. This chapter has been one that I will cherish. I look forward to what is next.”

He also added in his lengthy message, “It has been an honor to represent my family, my teammates, and the people of New England as a Patriot. Reflecting on my nine years in the NFL, and all the sacrifices it took to get there, there are many people that were just as much part of this journey.”

White went on to thank his wife and kids for the sacrifices they made to allow him to play the game.

He also thanked Patriots team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick for the opportunity to live out his childhood dream.

White also thanked his teammates for pushing him to become a better player and person.

He also gave thanks to his parents who have done everything for him to achieve his goals.

The three-time Super Bowl champion also thanked his agency and every person who watched him play.

His statement also reads, “To say that Foxboro will always hold a special place in my heart is an understatement.”

A Quick Glance Of White’s Career

While he is listed as a running back, Belichick also used him as a wide receiver.

His stats may not be at par with the best players in the league but his overtime touchdown in Super Bowl LI is iconic because he became the only player to score in overtime in a Super Bowl.

Aside from that distinction, White also holds the Super Bowl record for receptions and points scored.

He finished his career with 1,278 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, 3,278 receiving yards, and 25 touchdowns.
