The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to conduct its presidential primary election at a special convention holding at the Eagle Square, Abuja between Monday and Wednesday, June 6-8, 2022.
The APC faces a difficult task in selecting a candidate who can lead it to victory in the Nigerian presidential election in 2023. It could backfire if the leadership decides to impose a candidate on members in an arrogant manner. Nigerians are waiting with bated breath to see how the primary would turn out.
The screening committee, directed by John Odigie-Oyegun, screened twenty-three (23) candidates.
Those who succeeded include, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Yahaya Bello, David Umahi, Jack-ich and others.
When he asked to be allowed to choose his successor without interference, President Muhammadu Buhari created a cloud of doubt among hopefuls, party officials, and political observers.
After dropping what could be conveniently called “bombshell,” the President jetted off for Madrid, Spain on an official visit to Spanish President, Pedro Sanchez on the same day.
Following the parley, the APC governors to whom Buhari’s message was addressed had two meetings, the first in the Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja and the second at Abdullahi Adamu’s Aso Rock mansion, both of which ended in deadlock.
Sources said four northern governors; Umar Ganduje of Kano, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Sani Bello of Niger and Simon Lalong of Plateau supported the emergence of southern presidential candidate.
With that being said, Do you think Tinubu, who appears to be one of the strongest contender from the South in the APC primaries will gab the spot?
Will he win?
