Is The Word “Ashewo” An Insult?

A lot of people get offended whenever they are called “ashewo.”
The word “ashawo” is a Nigerian pidgin slang which simply means “Prostitute”, escort, sex worker.

It’s mostly used as an insult in arguments and verbal fights and it’s what some Elderly Nigerian women call other women who are “skimply” dressed to shame them.

However, I feel like people shouldn’t be offended whenever they are tagged “ashewo.” Like it’s a normal word, and some people see it as a day job. Surprisingly, I am not the only one who feels this way.

Some people say, If one is sexually active and they are not married, there isn’t much difference between them and an ashewo.
