Former Manchester City defender, Micah Richards, has explained why Aston Villa manager, Steven Gerrard, could prefer Pep Guardiola’s side to win the Premier League title ahead of Liverpool on Sunday.
Man City are currently on top of the Premier League table with one point ahead of the second position Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s Premier League final day fixtures.
Man City will face Aston Villa on Sunday, while Liverpool will tackle Aston Villa.
But Richards believes Gerrard would prefer the Citizens to win the Premier League title because Aston Villa have a clause in Jack Grealish’s contract, according to which they will benefit from Man City winning the English top-flight league.
Aston Villa will reportedly earn a bonus of £15 million if their ex-player Grealish, who joined Guardiola’s men last year for a British transfer record of £100 million, wins the Premier League.
Hinting that Gerrard’s side could put their financial desires above the chance to have a say in one of the greatest Premier League title races.
“Steven Gerrard would like to win the league for Liverpool on Sunday, but [Aston] Villa has a clause in [the] Jack Grealish deal that could land them an extra £15 million if City wins the league and in this business, money comes first,”
Richards told talkSPORT.
