Six Nigerian students have been selected as recipients of the prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program for 2023.
The Government of Canada announced the awardees on August 29, 2023.
The Vanier CGS program, established in 2008, aims to attract and retain exceptional doctoral students, thereby positioning Canada as a global hub for advanced research and education.
Named in honor of former Governor General Georges Vanier, a respected statesman and hero, the program is jointly administered by Canada’s three major granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
Each of the six Nigerian scholars, Chukwu Otuto Amarauche, Fatiregun Omolara, Iduye Damilola, Itanyi Ijeoma, Kehinde Abisola, and Ogunsola Samuel, will receive a Vanier Scholarship worth N45 million naira, enabling them to pursue their doctoral studies at various esteemed Canadian universities.
The scholarship covers a three-year period, during which the scholars will delve into diverse research fields that span social sciences and humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and health.
