Techpreneurs, Ezra Olubi and Shola Akinlade of Paystack receive OON award from President Buhari

Nigerian techpreneurs Ezra Olubi and Shola Akinlade who are the co-founders of one of Africa’s foremost online payment solution, Paystack have been conferred the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) as a total of 437 Nigerians were awarded.

The national honours event took place as at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Tuesday, on October 11, 2022 as Nigeria marks its 62nd independence day.

Presenting an award to him, videos trended on Tuesday as the President Muhammadu Buhari starred profusely at the tech guru, Ezra Olubi, who is widely known for his absurd dressing.

Though he has constantly established that he is heterosexual, Olubi is found of wearing lipsticks and nail polish.

Olubi graduated from Babcock University in 2006 with a degree in Computer Science. In 2016, he and Shola Akinlade cofounded PayStack that became the first Nigerian company to be accepted into the tech accelerator Y Combinator program, with a funding of $120,000.

Paystack was later acquired by Stripe, a technology-based Company for $200 million in 2020.

A total of six Nigerian tech entrepreneurs were conferred national awards on Tuesday; Paystack’s co-founders; Ezra Olubi & Shola Akinlade, co-founder at Flutterwave & Andela, Iyin Aboyeji, Ola Brown of Flying Doctors Healthcare Investment, Funke Opeke, founder and CEO of MainOne and Olugbenga Agboola, co-founder and CEO of Flutterwave.
