Sadiq Hunts For 40th Almeria Goal In 78 Games

Nigerian international striker Umar Sadiq will be gunning for his 40th game in 78 appearances for UD Almeria on Saturday at the Estadio Mediterraneo where the promotion-chasing team host SD Amorebieta in a LaLiga 2 matchweek 38 game.

The 25 year old joined Almeria from Serbain side, Partizan Belgrade in October 2020 and has scored 39 times in 77 games with 36 of the goals coming in 70 LaLiga appearances.

Sadiq will thus be eager to return to scoring ways after going nearly a month without a goal for his side. The last time the Nigerian was on target was in his club’s 3-0 defeat of Ponferradina at the Estadio Mediterraneo.

Since then the closest he has come was last weekend when he provided an assist in Almeria’s 2-0 win at Burgos CF to ensure they are second on the log, one point behind leaders Eibar.

On Saturday, Sadiq will not only be gunning for his 16th goal in 33 appearances this term in the league, 37th in 71 matches in the competition and 40th in 78 matches across all competitions for Almeria, he will also be seeking to secure his first win and score his first goal in two LaLiga 2 games against SD Amorebieta.

Sadiq is also still in the race for the top scorers award in the division albeit he is four goals behind the trio of SD Eibar’s Stoichkov, Cristhian Stuani of Girona FC and Borja Bastón of Real Oviedo. He is also one goal short of Rubén Castro of FC Cartagena.
