Rising Nigerian Artist, Victony To Release Nigeria’s First-ever Spotify Single, Makes A Cover Of ‘Dami Duro’

Rising Nigerian artist and Spotify RADAR Africa alum, Victony is releasing the country’s first-ever Spotify Single, a rendition of Davido’s “Dami Duro.” The cover, which is only accessible on Spotify, is a disco-inspired take on Davido’s legendary decade-old club hit.

Victony made his debut in the music world with his mixtape ‘The Outlaw King.’ He began producing Rap music and has now evolved into a diversified combination of Afrobeats, R&B, Trap, and Afropop sound. In 2021, he continued to convert ears with critically acclaimed hits such as ‘Pray’ and Mayorkun’s hit single, ‘Holy Father.’ Outlaw EP, published in May of this year, spawned the introspective single ‘Kolomental’ and the viral smash, ‘Soweto,’ which have gathered millions of Spotify streams.

‘Dami Duro,’ Davido’s breakout hit, is a tune that almost every Afrobeats fan knows. The single, which was released in 2012 on his debut album, ‘Omo Baba Olowo,’ is still a standard at Afrobeats parties and club nights across Africa.

Speaking about ‘Dami Duro,’ Victony stated what he likes about the song as well as his best part of the song.

“Dami Duro is a really beautiful song by Davido. My favorite part of the track is the hook. It’s very audacious, it’s so powerful. I really, really love that. With the Spotify Singles version, we wanted to do something really different to make it more of a classic and give it this disco feel – I’d say ‘Grandpa Ebelebe’ style.”

Spotify is releasing updated renditions of what many consider modern-day Nigerian classics performed by chosen artists to honor the legacy of Nigeria’s rich music history. The covers, which are a first for Spotify Africa, demonstrate Spotify’s dedication to being the worldwide hub for the discovery and promotion of Nigerian music.
