The Texas Rangers made the shocking decision yesterday to relieve manager Chris Woodward of his duties.
Third base coach Tony Beasley will serve as the interim manager for the remainder of the season.
After a big offseason in which the Rangers signed Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Jon Gray, and Brad Miller, the team has struggled to stay in the race this year.
They’re 52-63 and sit 22 games back in the AL West and 9.5 back in the Wild Card race.
Needless to say, it has been nothing short of a trying year out in Arlington.
Rangers insider Evan Grant had an interesting take on the situation and made a brutally honest assessment, that if the Rangers want their next manager to be more successful, he’ll need to have more to work with on his roster.
I don’t know what you can say about Chris Woodward’s tenure as Rangers manager, but I do know if the Rangers want the next guy to be more successful, it’s going to require a more well-rounded roster.

How To Fix The Rangers
The Rangers made sure they spent big to upgrade their offense this past offseason.
It was the pitching that was left out of the equation.
All Texas did was sign Gray, who has had a solid season, going 7-6 with a 3.83 ERA, but is currently on the injured list.
The pitching has been a problem for the Rangers this season aside from Martin Perez.
Grant is correct that the Rangers roster will need to be better constructed for the next manager to succeed in his role.
Sure, Woodward didn’t really take the Rangers anywhere, but at the same time, it’s not like he had a whole lot to work with.
The Rangers struggles can’t all be put on his shoulders.
The front office will need to address the pitching staff this coming offseason if they want to have a contending ballclub in 2023.
