Police arrest suspected member of notorious bandit syndicate that kidnapped Katsina village head and killed his brother

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a member of notorious bandit and kidnap for ransom syndicate, Lawal Umar alias “Bammi”.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Gambo Isah, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, March 9, said the suspect confessed to have participated in the kidnapping of village head of Radda, Charanchi LGA in which they shot and killed Radda’s younger brother, Alhaji Aminu Umar.

“On 25/02/2021 based on a tip off, the Command succeeded in arresting one Lawal Umar, ‘M’, alias “Bammi”, aged 35years of Tsaskiya Village Safana LGA, a notorious bandit and a member of kidnap for ransom syndicate. In the course of investigation the suspect confessed to have participated in several attacks on villages in Safana, Dutsinma and Charanchi LGA of Katsina State,” SP Isah stated.

“The suspect confessed to have participated in the kidnapping of village head of Radda, Charanchi LGA, in which they shot and killed the junior brother of the village head one ALH Aminu Umar ‘m’ aged 60years.

“Further more, he confessed to have received the sum of one million naira as his own share of the ransom they collected from the relatives of the village head before his release. He confessed to be a member of the camp of one notorious bandit’s leader Tukur Mai Kusa who is on the Command wanted list. A locally fabricated revolver Rifle and a motorcycle were also recovered during the course of investigation.”
