The San Diego Padres were swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend, with their new deadline additions already in the lineup.

The team, however, has responded nicely after those three losses, and have taken two straight games against the San Francisco Giants to regain some ground in the standings.

Things, as a whole, are starting to look up: San Diego has an incredible rotation and a good pitching staff overall.

The offense was a problem they needed to address at the deadline, and they did it.

Now, despite a few stumbles here and there, they look like a contender, and are well positioned to make some noise in October,

“Final: Padres 13, Giants 7. The Padres traded for Juan Soto, Josh Bell and Brandon Drury, and — gasp! — their offense got a lot better. (You don’t say!) Slow start, but this lineup suddenly looks pretty darn potent. The Padres are 63-51,” AJ Cassavell, the team’s beat writer for MLB.com, tweeted.

The Padres Addressed Their Most Pressing Needs At The Deadline

It was never that hard: a contending team needs to have a solid pitching staff, but it also needs to score some runs consistently.

The Padres had the former, but not the latter.

Now, they have both: Soto is slashing .357/.471/.607 since landing in San Diego, Drury has two home runs, and Bell has a .375 OBP.

As the trio gets comfortable in San Diego, they will produce even more; and with superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. getting closer to a return, the arrow is definitely pointing up.

The 63-51 Padres should be able to make the playoffs, and once there, they could be a real threat to anybody: even the Dodgers.
