Amas Obasogie has rejected allegations of match-fixing following his three-month suspension by Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars, insisting that his performances in recent matches were the result of errors rather than deliberate wrongdoing.
The goalkeeper was suspended pending investigations into goals conceded during a CAF Confederation Cup tie against Flambeau du Centre and a domestic league fixture against Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.
In a statement addressing the allegations, Obasogie firmly denied any involvement in match manipulation.
“I state clearly and unequivocally that I have never engaged in match fixing and will never do so,” he said.
‘Footballing errors, not deliberate misconduct’
Obasogie acknowledged shortcomings in his performances but rejected suggestions of intentional misconduct.
“The goals conceded… were the result of footballing errors, not deliberate misconduct,” he stated. “I accept full responsibility for my performance; however, mistakes on the field must not be mistaken for match manipulation.”
He added that as a national team goalkeeper, he is fully aware of the severe consequences associated with match-fixing.
“I have sworn never to bring the game of football, my club, or my country into disrepute,” Obasogie said.
Cooperation with investigation
The goalkeeper said he is prepared to cooperate fully with any inquiry.
“I am ready and willing to appear before any disciplinary committee to defend myself and clear my name,” he said.
Despite the suspension, Obasogie reassured his commitment to Singida Black Stars, expressing respect for the club’s leadership, technical crew, teammates and supporters.
He maintained that his focus remains on contributing positively once the matter is resolved.
The suspension remains in place while investigations continue. No timeline has been given for a final decision.
