Barcelona winger Raphinha has pushed back strongly against fresh speculation linking him with a move away from the club, particularly to the Saudi Pro League.
The Brazilian dismissed the latest claims as “nonsense,” reiterating his long-standing desire to remain at Barcelona.
Despite his repeated denials, the rumours have persisted, fuelled by Barcelona’s financial challenges and the lucrative offers coming from Saudi Arabia, proposals Raphinha previously admitted were tempting.
Transfer noise and public denials
Reports this week suggested he had a verbal pact with sporting director Deco to allow a move after the 2026 World Cup should a substantial offer arrive.
Raphinha quickly refuted the story on social media, stressing his full commitment to Barça’s long-term project.
Speaking to a Spanish TikToker in comments quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said: “I don’t know where they get so much nonsense, really. This place is where fake news always comes out – very nice.”
Under Hansi Flick, Raphinha has emerged as a crucial figure this season, earning increased responsibility and even serving as a team captain.
His high output of goals and assists led to an agreement on a contract extension running until June 2028.
Reflecting on his vocal leadership style, he said: “Sometimes I feel like I’m being too pushy. My team-mates think I talk too much or demand too much, but that’s who I am.
“I demand more from people who can give more. Someone has to take that responsibility. After the game, we hug and celebrate.”
Simeone’s high praise
Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone also weighed in after Barcelona’s recent 3-1 win over his side, praising the Brazilian’s versatility and work rate.
“Raphinha is an incredible player,” Simeone said. “He can play everywhere, winger, midfielder, striker, or wing-back.
“He scores, creates, presses and runs. I don’t know how he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or. I would choose him always.”
Chasing recognition
Raphinha, who finished fifth in the Ballon d’Or voting, admitted he hoped for a higher placement.
“When you give everything and have an incredible season, you naturally expect to be among the best. Finishing fifth was an honour, but my expectations were higher.”
