It’s certainly going to be a while before we see another player reach 3,000 career hits.

But 2,000 career hits is a pretty big deal too, and on Saturday night, Washington Nationals designated hitter Nelson Cruz reached that mark, lacing a 96-mph fastball from San Diego Padres reliever Adrian Morejon out to right field and prompting a nice tip of the cap moment, as Cruz tipped his helmet to the Nationals faithful.

On Twitter, the Nationals posted a nice little graphic to celebrate Cruz’s accomplishment, featuring shots of Cruz in every uniform he’s had the privilege to wear over his illustrious career.

Cruz Reaches 2,000

Cruz is certainly a well-traveled veteran who has seen a lot during his career.

He’s been a part of two World Series teams and has been one of the best sluggers in all of baseball since 2005, when he came up with the Milwaukee Brewers.

A career .275 batting average, 457 career home runs, and a 42.7 career WAR can attest to that.

He is a four-time Silver Slugger Award, a seven-time All-Star, and was also the ALCS MVP back in 2011 with the Texas Rangers.

This is a guy who has seen a little bit of everything during his career and has been doing it for a long time.

The 2,000-hit milestone is a milestone well-deserved and hard earned for Cruz.

He’s always been known for his imposing presence in the batter’s box and the ability to hit some mammoth home runs.

He may be 42 years old, but he still possesses the ability to crush home runs like nobody’s business.

Cruz has certainly earned this milestone and he got to celebrate it at home with the Nationals fans cheering him on.
