Bayern Munich slipped to a second successive 1-1 draw in the Bundesliga as they were held away from home by a dogged Union Berlin.
After being held against the odds last week, Julian Nagelsmann’s men fell behind on the 12th minute in the German capital. Christopher Trimmel picked out Sheraldo Becker from a free-kick before the Union forward slammed a side-footed volley beyond Manuel Neuer.
The hosts’ lead was short-lived, however, as Bayern restored parity just moments later. After clearing a corner, the ball fell to Joshua Kimmich at the edge of the penalty area. Keeping his poise, the midfielder drove an effort through a thicket of bodies and into the net.
Sadio Mane headed over from a Kimmich soon after, before Frederik Ronnow in the Union Berlin goal made a terrific stop to deny Leroy Sane. The German fizzed an effort towards goal where the Union No.1 got down low to flick his strike over the crossbar with his feet.
Bayern continued to dominate possession, with Sane firing straight down the throat of Ronnow after the restart.
Nagelsmann sent for Ryan Gravenberch and Thomas Muller on the hour-mark, with the latter testing the Union goalkeeper from 20 yards out soon after his introduction.
Neuer had very little to contend with on the day, but he was called into a smart save from Jamie Leweling 15 minutes from time. The second half substitute nipped away from Dayot Upamecano and fired a low-driven effort towards the bottom corner, only for Neuer to palm the ball away to his right.
Serge Gnabry fired over from a tight angle for the visitors, before Alphonso Davies almost inadvertently netted a winning goal. Ronnow made another superb stop with his foot, before the ball rebounded off the Canadian and almost flew past the Union goalkeeper.
