How Ronaldo Blocked Man Utd From Appointing Conte As New Manager

Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo blocked the club from appointing Antonio Conte earlier this season, the Manchester Evening News reports.
However, senior officials at Old Trafford, chose not to consult Ronaldo over the appointment of Erik ten Hag.

United have been searching for a new permanent manager since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last year and was replaced by Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis in November.

Before Solskjaer’s dismissal, the Red Devils had been linked with a move for Conte.

But they eventually stuck with Solskjaer, while the Italian signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

It has now emerged that United declined to hire Conte after speaking with Ronaldo.

United’s hierarchy had not been entirely convinced about replacing Solskjaer with the hot-headed former Inter Milan boss and that was only compounded when Ronaldo’s own reservations were fed back to the board.

The Portugal captain effectively vetoed any move for Conte, but just a few weeks later his agent, Jorge Mendes, was pushing for the club to sack Solskjaer after United were hammered 4-1 by Watford.
