Singer Jesse Powell — a Grammy-nominated R&B crooner who was known for hits such as “You” — has died. He was 51.
His sisters Trina and Tamara Powell announced his passing on social media Tuesday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home,” the Instagram post read.
“The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy.”
They concluded the message by thanking fans.
“Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him,” his sisters wrote.
No cause of death was immediately given.
Tamara also posted a throwback video of her brother singing, captioning the sweet clip: “Aside from being one of the best R&B male vocalists out there, you were the best big brother ever. I loved you so much. I’m thankful that we were so close; a whole mess all the time.”
She lamented: “We absolutely adored you [and] our family will not be the same without you.”
Powell dropped four albums between 1996 and 2003, with his sophomore record “‘Bout It” certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1999.
The singer-songwriter’s tune “You,” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in 1996.
Powell was also known for having a four-octave vocal range — a rarity for musicians.
