Get Vaccinated – GHS Urges Ghanaians As Covid-19 Active Cases Rise

The Ghana Health Service is concerned that efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 are being hampered by most Ghanaians’ unwillingness to get vaccinated.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, said on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle, “Covid-19 cases have risen over the last two weeks.”

He stated that this is proof that the virus is still active and urged Ghanaians not to relax their guard.

“Our most recent data shows approximately 300 cases.” This indicates that the virus is still present in the system. We also have the flu (H3N2), so many people are coughing and sneezing. The majority of the test results are H3N2 positive.

He stated that the majority of the cases had been reported in the Greater Accra Region.

“Some were discovered in schools, while others were discovered at parties and indoor events.”

He stated that health experts are unsure whether the virus will ever be eradicated, which is why “we are trying to integrate it into our healthcare and pushing for more vaccinations.”

“We can at least control the spread if more people get vaccinated.”

He stated that less than 10% of Ghanaians have been immunized.

He is concerned that if the virus resurfaces, Ghanaians will be at risk.

GHS is thus going to intensify its campaign to get more people vaccinated in the coming days.

“There will be one this week, between the 8th and 12th, and another between the 23rd and 27th of this month.”
