Former Minister, Dalung storms Adamawa, seek justice for man jailed for over a month for condemning Gov Fintiri

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, on Tuesday, stormed the Chief Magistrate Court IV in Yola, Adamawa State to seek justice for Abubakar Lawan Uba.

Uba, a politician based in Adamawa, has been remanded for 36 days for criticising Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the state.

On September 7, 2022, SaharaReporters reported that a Magistrate Court denied bail to Uba, who had been remanded for days for allegedly insulting Fintiri.

Uba was remanded by the court on August 15 but had been detained by the police seven days before then.

Uba has been in detention for over a month after he was accused of sharing videos in which he claimed Fintiri betrayed those who helped him win the election in 2019.

The chief magistrate court presided over by Magistrate Aminu Abdulkadir Maiha dismissed the bail application by the counsel for the defendant while a similar application at the High Court was dismissed.

While addressing journalists on the court premises on Tuesday, Dalung said he came to the court as a Nigerian citizen to ensure justice for Uba.

Dalung accordingly vowed to ensure justice for the politician.

Uba, who is currently standing trial before the Chief Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate Aminu Abdulkadir Maiha, for defamation of character and several other offences, has vehemently denied committing the offence.
