FAAN bans cash payments at all airport gates, parking areas and lounges from March 1

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that cash payments will no longer be accepted at any of its pay points nationwide starting Sunday, March 1, 2026.

This marks a major shift in how transactions are handled at airports across the country.

According to FAAN, the new policy forms part of its “Go Cashless” initiative — aimed at making payments faster, safer, and fully digital at all FAAN-managed facilities.

In a statement released on Friday, the authority said all passengers and airport visitors will now be required to make digital payments at international and local airports.

This includes entry through access gates, parking fees at car parks, and charges for executive or VIP lounges.

“In line with the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria, effective March 1st, 2026, cash will no longer be accepted at any FAAN pay point,” FAAN said.

It urged travellers to prepare for digital transactions at all airports nationwide.

Passengers are encouraged to collect their Go Cashless cards at designated pick-up points inside terminals such as access gates and lounges, which allow them to complete payments quickly using a “tap-and-go” system.

FAAN has also started issuing these cards ahead of the deadline.

The initiative aligns with the broader cashless agenda supported by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government, designed to reduce reliance on physical cash, enhance revenue transparency, and minimise delays at busy airports.

The move follows earlier pilots of FAAN’s digital system at major hubs like Murtala Muhammed International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where cashless payments have already been introduced in stages.

The authority reassured travellers that the cashless system is secure and meant to improve convenience.

Passengers with questions can visit any FAAN information desk at the airports or check further details on FAAN’s official website, www.faan.ng.
