Former governor of Anambra State and erstwhile presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has formally joined the Labour Party (LP) to contest the 2023 presidential election.
According to reports gathered, Obi registered as a member of the party on Friday in his ward in Anambra State.
He is expected to contest the party’s presidential primary election next Tuesday.
According to report Obi was planning to dump the PDP for Labour Party.
“He is leaving for the Labour Party,” a source had told SaharaReporters.
“The results of various primaries of the party conducted so far have shown who most of these delegates are loyal to,” the source had said.
“So, he (Obi) is under pressure to leave the PDP for the moneybags, we are currently looking to find another party to accept him.”
Obi had resigned his membership of the PDP two days before its presidential primary.
Confirming the report, Obi shared this on his social media
I thank all Nigerians, especially our youths who have joined me in the mission of taking back and reuniting Nigeria.
This project is yours and for the future of your children. I am just a facilitator.
Since I resigned from the PDP because of issues that are at variance with my persona and principles, I have consulted widely with various parties and personalities to ensure we do not complicate the route to our desired destination.
For me, the process of achieving our goal is as fundamental as what one will do thereafter.
Therefore, I have chosen a route that I consider to be in line with our aspirations and my mantra of taking the country from consumption to production; and that is the Labour Party which is synonymous with the people, workers, development, production, securing and uniting Nigerians as one family.
