Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has warned the Ricketts family to end their bid to buy Chelsea Football Club and move away immediately.
From all indications, the Ricketts family are the best bidders and favorites to buy the Blues from Roman Abramovich.
The club’s supporters are not in support of the Ricketts owning the club, with hundreds of them protesting already.
The fans are vehemently in opposition of the Ricketts takeover and held a protest outside Stamford Bridge before their 4-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.
Their anger has largely been sparked by Joe Ricketts, the father of the Chicago Cubs owners, after he once described Muslims as ‘my enemy’ in leaked emails from 2019.
Although Joe is not involved in the bid to buy Chelsea, Neville believes the opposition from supporters should be enough to shelve the takeover plans.
“There have been movements and noise in the last week that the Ricketts’ bid seems to be the favored one and it seems to be getting preferential treatment as other parties have suggested,”
Neville told Sky Sports.
“I have to say, if I were the Ricketts family and got that type of hostility on the way in… move away. Move away, the fans are important.
“So, we’ve got to make sure moving forward, it’s not about best bids, it’s about what the fans want,”
He said.
Meanwhile, Cleveland Cavaliers owner, billonaire Dan Gilbert has joined the Ricketts family’s consortium bidding to buy Chelsea.
Gilbert, who is the head of Rock Entertainment Group, boasts a personal estimated net worth of £24billion.
The 60-year-old is one of America’s wealthiest men and has added to Ricketts family’s financial muscle in their bid to buy Chelsea.
Also joining the Ricketts’ consortium is Ken Griffin, who boasts of personal fortune estimated at £22billion.
