Davido’s DMW Has Been Sinking Since Mayorkun’s Exit — Do You Agree?

At some point not too long ago, Davido Music Worldwide was one of the most influential music imprints in the industry.
The label started as an imprint to promote Davido’s music after he left his brother’s HKN music. He decided to expand in 2016 and then signed Mayorkun and Dremo. The goal was to promote their music alongside his.

By the time it was 2018, DMW had gained a reputation for being one of the powerhouses in the music industry.

With Mayorkun doing well, Dremo not doing bad himself, Davido at his peak, and other artists like Peruzzi and Yonda also on the roster, it seemed like nobody could stop them. During that period, they even had collective hits like “Back 2 Back,” “Aje,” “Mind,” and “On God.”

Mayorkun’s “The Mayor of Lagos” album was released under the label in 2018, and Davido came with “A Good Time” in 2019. It was indeed all good. During the lockdown, things became more and more interesting as Mayorkun continued to soar.

Davido capped the year with “A Better Time” release, earning him an Artist of the Year nomination. Mayorkun also got that nomination. It doesn’t get better than that for any label, honestly.

Then 2021 happened. And everything changed. Davido’s album had flopped and it came to the public’s knowledge that Mayorkun had exited the label. His long-anticipated second album, “Back In Office” wasn’t even under DMW and Davido didn’t feature on it. That was the end of the bright DMW we all knew.

Since then, Davido has tried to make bangers, with most of his effort ending in futility. It really shows that Mayorkun isn’t there anymore to write his hits for him anymore. His last major hit was even “The Best,” which featured Mayorkun.

With Mayorkun gone, the DMW ship is sinking and it looks like not even Davido himself will be able to save it. He just wouldn’t be able to get another artist like Mayorkun anymore.

Naturally, some would say Davido can do fine without Mayorkun, but I’m of the opinion that the reason nobody is talking about DMW anymore is because Mayorkun is no longer there. After all, Mayorkun has made hits since he left.

What do you think?

Do You Agree That DMW Has Been Sinking Since Mayorkun’s Exit Or You Think It’s Just A Coincidence?
