Davido has opened up about a key creative moment behind his Grammy-nominated single With You, crediting Omah Lay for pushing him to rewrite a part of his verse shortly before the song was released.
Speaking at a recent public event, where a clip of his remarks has now circulated online, the Afrobeats star explained that he made a major change to his verse just two days before the track dropped.
Davido admitted that the decision still makes his heart race when he thinks about it, describing the revised verse as “legendary.” He revealed that Omah Lay played a crucial role in the change, urging him to adjust the final eight bars because the earlier version didn’t fully reflect Davido’s natural sound.
According to Davido, Omah Lay felt the initial recording came off as “trying to be cool” and encouraged him to lean into the signature style fans know him for. Davido eventually agreed, rewriting the section and replacing it with the version that listeners now widely praise.
He added that he had several other songs recorded at the time, but Omah Lay’s honest feedback helped shape With You into the standout hit it eventually became.
