Confirmed shirt numbers for 2022/23

West Ham have a European tour to look forward to alongside their Premier League commitments in 2022/23.

The Hammers qualified for the Europa Conference League play-off round last season by coming seventh and have made a number of additions during the summer transfer market to give David Moyes all the ammunition he needs.

Here are the squad numbers for the West Ham squad in 2022/23.

1 – Lukasz Fabianski (GK)
2 – Ben Johnson
3 – Aaron Cresswell
4 – Kurt Zouma
5 – Vladimir Coufal
7 – Gianluca Scamacca
8 – Pablo Fornals
9 – Michail Antonio
10 – Manuel Lanzini
11 – Nikola Vlasic
12 – Flynn Downes
13 – Alphonse Areola (GK)
14 – Maxwel Cornet
15 – Craig Dawson
20 – Jarrod Bowen
21 – Angelo Ogbonna
22 – Said Benrahma
23 – Issa Diop
25 – Nathan Trott (GK)
27 – Nayef Aguerd
28 – Tomas Soucek
29 – Goncalo Cardoso
32 – Conor Coventry
35 – Darren Randolph (GK)
41 – Declan Rice

As classic numbers go, there aren’t many up for grabs. West Ham have two retired shirt numbers – six and 38 in honour of Bobby Moore and Dylan Tombides respectively who wore those jerseys.

As long as it is unique within their squad, Premier League players can wear any number between one and 99, although tradition dictates that you will usually see first-teamers donning one to about 30 – barring a few exceptions.

Man City youngster Cole Palmer holds the record for the highest number in Premier League history, turning out in the number 80.

Also following tradition, goalkeepers will generally occupy numbers one and 13.

Premier League players cannot wear the number zero – and that’s fair enough because it would be a bit silly.

Premier League players are only allowed to change squad number during pre-season or if one is sold or loaned to another club in the January transfer window.

Clubs must submit their confirmed squad list – including shirt numbers – by a specified deadline each year, and numbers cannot be changed thereafter. In 2021 that deadline was 1 September.
