Callum Hudson-Odoi joins Bayer Leverkusen on loan

Chelsea have confirmed winger Callum Hudson-Odoi will spend the 2022/23 season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

The 21-year-old has not featured for the Blues so far this season and has been an unused substitute in their last three games.

Interest in Hudson-Odoi’s services has long been widespread, and Chelsea announced on Tuesday that he will be spending the rest of the campaign on loan at Bundesliga side Leverkusen, though they do have an option to recall him in January.

Hudson-Odoi broke into the Chelsea setup during their 2018/19 run to the Europa League final. At the time, he was the subject of public interest from Bayern Munich, but opted to stay at Stamford Bridge.

However, he has since struggled with several injuries – notably to his Achilles – and has been used sparingly by current boss Thomas Tuchel, who has opted to play him at wing-back on occasion.

The winger heads to Leverkusen to help them in their quest to close the gap on Bundesliga giants Bayern. They will also partake in this season’s Champions League, facing Atletico Madrid, Porto and Club Brugge in the group stage.
