Bissouma To Join The Conte Revolution

Hitting the sporting headlines for all the right reasons wherever he has been, Antonio Conté has continued his stellar managerial record in North London.
Despite being rated as outsiders for a top-four finish by the best new betting sites UK, Spurs ended the campaign in fourth place, ensuring Champion’s League football for the coming season.

The Spurs hierarchy was understandably keen to keep the Italian in position in order to spearhead their European charge, although it is reported that Conté himself required some persuading.

However, the promise of a £150million summer budget and at least six new signings is all the reassurance the three-time Serie A, and Premier League winning coach required in order to sign on the dotted line.

Having extended his stay until at least the end of the 2022/23 season, Conté now looks set to begin his spending spree.

Forster and Perisic Kickstart the Summer Business
The first two signings of the summer proved to be relatively low-key affairs, with both Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic arriving as free agents. Both may however prove to be shrewd pieces of business in the long run – former England international Forster providing back up to the excellent Hugo Lloris, and Ivan Perisic bringing class, creativity, and experience on the biggest stages of all; expect the former Inter Milan man to start on the left-hand side.

Bissouma First of the Big Money Buys?
With Perisic and Forster solidifying the squad, it looks as though Mali International Yves Bissouma will be the next man through the door, with a fee off £25-30million reportedly having been agreed with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Cutting his teeth at Lille in France, Bissouma joined the Seagulls for an undisclosed fee in July 2018 and has been touted with a move to a “bigger” club almost ever since thanks to his consistently excellent displays down on the south coast.

An athletic ball-winning midfielder, Bissouma is adept at sniffing out the danger in the center of the park and breaking up play, which allayed to excellent close control, speed, and dribbling ability enabling the 25-year-old to turn defense into attack in the blink of an eye.

On paper, he looks an excellent fit for a Tottenham squad that boasts such dangerous counterattacking weapons.

Adding Bissouma to the ranks certainly increases competition in the Spurs engine room, with the new signing, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp, and Harry Winks set to do battle for just the two starting spots in Conté’s preferred system.

That said, Harry Winks looks set to depart the club over the summer, and Bissouma, Winks, and Hoejbjerg could all be said to fulfill a broadly similar role. With that in mind, don’t rule out further – possibly more attack-minded – additions to the Spurs midfield over the summer, as Conté continues to splash the cash.
