AFCON 2021: Sadiq Umar Disobeyed My Instructions – Eguavoen

Super Eagles interim boss, Augustine Eguavoen has said, striker Sadiq Umar did not keep to the coach’s instruction when he came off the bench in the second half
Eguavoen said instead of keeping to instructions, Umar came in to do something slightly different from what he was told thereby making it difficult for the team.

Nigeria defeated Sudan 3-1 in the second Group D match on Saturday in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Taiwo Awoniyi, who scored one of the Super Eagles goals, was replaced by Umar Sadiq in the 82nd minute.

Other scorers in the game were Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon while Khedr Safour Daiyeen pulled a goal back from the spot on 70 minutes.

“Substitution yes has been spot on, you can see Awoniyi the lone striker, of course, Iheanacho behind him, he was tired,” he told his post-match press conference on Saturday.

“It was necessary for us to bring in fresh legs, but the instruction given to the player [Sadiq] that comes in is a little bit different from what he goes in there and does so makes it a bit difficult.

“I think we have a bench rich enough to pull us through”.
